Build Emotional Fitness in the Good Company of Our Horses.
Purposeful Engagement. Profound Results.
The Equus Effect Program honors its deep roots in addressing the critical needs of veterans and first responders. Through their experiences, we developed a universal curriculum designed to create meaningful, lasting change for anyone struggling to move forward in an increasingly fast-paced and changing world. Hear from some of the men and women who first placed their trust in our herd—and ultimately, themselves.
“There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river.
We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in.”
― Desmond Tutu
Programs to Build Emotional Fitness.
Each program at The Equus Effect combines experiential learning, body-based tools and capacity-building practices designed to help participants reconnect with their innate resources and potential.
Emotional Fitness Skills
This flagship program is intended to provide both basic and more nuanced tools for self management and attunement to others.
Mindful Embodiment
Participants are given both profound AND practical tools to manage their body’s reactions and restore — in real time.
Attention & Energy
Energy always follows attention and with more demands on both, it has become increasingly important to do what we can to manage each.
Train to Facilitate
To become a facilitator, candidates will learn to demonstrate the required skills through our 8-month training program.
Who We Serve
Our approach supports individuals and groups seeking growth, connection, and lasting positive change.
Military, Veterans, First Responders & Families

Recovery
Boundaries, self respect, competence & confidence in the good company of our horses
(Recovery groups are usually single gender and require that participants have solid support systems in place to ensure they are on the road to recovery).
Why Horses?
Because horses are honest – how they feel is what they do. Their sensitivity, presence, and authenticity make them powerful guides for personal growth.
Experiential Learning with Horses
Their existence for 55 million years has depended upon their ability to sense the heart rate, muscle tension and breathing of others from 30 feet away.
The Lack of Hidden Agendas
Horses let us know exactly how they feel about how we act with them. Their perception of who is safe and who isn’t.
Transparent Trust
Humans domesticated horses 6,000 years ago — the only large mammals, besides African wildlife, we can freely engage with.
